Sorry for the exclamation point…in a title.
But..I just LOVE playlists, of any sort, and get really excited about them.
You see, as a cycling instructor, avid runner and all around music lover there are few things in life that get me as excited as a brand new playlist. Well, maybe except for cookies. I love music. I listen to music any chance I get: when I’m waking up and doing my morning routine, when I drive, when I make breakfast, whenever I cook for that matter, when I get ready, when I shower, when I do my makeup, when I…well, I’m sure you get the point by now.
There are only TWO situations ever in life when I’m literally like – NO, I CANNOT have music on right now- 1. while studying/reading and 2. while lifting weights.
Hear me out, both of those things require my absolute and full concentration. I am that weirdo person who gets all into the music, I’ll do my own version of dancing (um, awkwardly shaking my hips/arms to what I think is the beat? sort of..) and just let go to the music like nothing else matters. So, basically I don’t want to awkwardly squat to the beat (omg, no.). Time and place for everything.
Cycling classes are different though. Bring on the music, bring it on LOUD and let it completely take OVER! My favorite part of cycling is letting go and giving the workout all I’ve got while losing myself in the beat. The music is blazingly loud and I feel like as I become one with the bike we all just melt into the song. Before I know it I wake up, the class is over, I’m euphoric…and I’ve burned a couple hundred calories.
Not a bad deal.
In high school and college I worked at a tanning salon and that job was the only time I had access to the almighty satellite radio. OMG I was in heaven. I used to sit behind that desk with a pen and notebook frantically scribbling down every song and an artist so I could run home and destroy yet another computer downloading everything and anything from each newfound artist on Limewire and Kazaa.
Ahh…those were the days.
Anyway, I still frantically make notes to remember new songs and artists and continue to make playlists non stop. The only difference is back in my teens I used to burn my lists to CD’s to listen to while driving to class (and of course share my music by giving new CD’s to friends…sharpie-doodled with the name of the month I made it or an ode to the main genre or artist that occupied the mix) and now I make a playlist on my phone and share it with my class while also delivering a killer workout perfectly choreographed to the flowing BPMs.
And now, with my invisible bloggy friends. That I pretend exist.
Music is made to be shared and I’m sure there are others out there who go gaga over the sight of a new-to-them playlist the way I do, so for all of you guys, I want to share my lists. I want to try and post at least one new list a week. Since today is December 22nd, and in the spirit of all things Christmas, here is this week’s holiday playlist.
Yes, it’s ALL Christmas music and YES I choreographed an entire cycling class to this holiday playlist.

I love the classics just as much as the next person, however, I really do love me some pop music. I absolutely love the modern takes on classic Christmas hits, dare I say, even more than the original. Yes. Michael Buble and Mariah FOR LIFE. There are only TWO songs that I love in all their original glory and those are my two ABSOLUTE favorite Christmas songs of LIFE: Santa Baby and Baby, It’s Cold Outside. Can’t beat ’em.
Typically, the Mariah Carey Holiday station on Pandora runs my life in December but this year I discovered Relient K’s album “Let it Snow, Baby..Let it Reindeer” and let’s just say it’s been a game changer. I hope you enjoy this playlist as much as I do!
