Weekend Reflections; Holiday Cheer

This weekend was our annual Christmas decorating tradition! Every year, the weekend after our trip to Newport, we put up our tree and do all our home decorations. A glass of spiked eggnog is always in hand and watching Christmas Vacation for the millionth time is a must. The only difference this year was that for the first time we purchased a real tree! We originally planned to go up to one of the tree farms with Gatsby and cut it down ourselves but the weekend forecast said rain so we had to go with plan B..purchasing a pre-cut tree from Stew Leonard’s. It worked out fine though because we still got to bring Gatsby and came home to celebrate a bit while we put it up. The naked tree gave a nice rustic look to the apartment but nothing beats an abundantly decorated tree. Every year that Dan and I have decorated our tree together we have gone with a red/burgnady theme and this year we switched it up to a rustic looking gold and silver theme. Of course, 7 years later and we now have quite the collection of ornaments which kind of dilutes our color scheme. I still love it, nonetheless. ūüôā

Breaking out our little ornament collection..every one has its own story.

My FAVORITE ornament!! My in-laws got it for us a Christmas gift last year; it’s our wedding venue! The only problem is its weight…it’s quite¬†heavy and I forgot how much more delicate the branches of a real tree are as opposed to our¬†usually fake. I must have hung it too high and sadly, it fell and completely shattered. Luckily, the structure within the globe stayed in tact so we put it up on our windowsill as a decoration.¬†

I could not find gold bows anywhere! So I did the next best thing and made my own to decorate our tree with.

Traditional eggnog while decorating. This is the Califa Farms Almond Milk Nog that I am obsessed with.

The other part of our tradition…Thanksgiving leftovers!

Gatsby was far more interested in snuggling with all of his toys than the decorations.

The most delicious Apple Pie Caramel Apple from Sweet Indulgence in Rhode Island (the amazing bakery that made our wedding cake!).

I still love the rustic vibe that a naked natural tree yields.

I think it’s time I stop purchasing an ornament every time I walk into¬†Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts.

Since we’ve become the typical crazy dog parents, Gatsby gets his own stocking.

It’s not Christmas time without some outstanding red wine…

I simply cannot resist the pull of¬†Bath & Body Works at the start of every season…and cannot stop laughing at this video.

Have you tried the Chestnut Praline¬†latte from Starbucks yet? I wish I never had… #dangerous

Gatsby is Starbucks’ newest biggest fan thanks to his Puppacino..a pup cup filled to the brim with whipped cream. There’s a video of him in all his glory with this cup on my Instagram.

On Sunday we stopped by this cute little winter festival and got to see some reindeer!

…And indulge in some Elevation Burger..isn’t that what Sundays are for?
